A.M ve P.M. Nedir?


A.M latince bir kelime olan ante meridiem'in kısaltılmış şeklidir. Öğleden önce anlamına gelir. Günün 12 saatlik bölüme bölündüğü gösterimde, öğleden önce saatlerin sonuna eklenir.

P.M. de latince Post meridiem kelimesinin kısaltılmış şeklidir Öğleden sonra anlamına gelir. Günün 12 saatlik bölüme bölündüğü gösterimde, öğleden sonra saatlerin sonuna eklenir.

Latince olan bu iki kelimeyi İngilizce kelimelerle eşleştirerek daha kolay akılda tutabiliriz. "The Digital Dictionary" adlı sözlüğün yazarı Michael Phillips, bu kısaltmaları akılda daha kolay kalması için kolay bir ifade bulmuştur:

AM = After Midnight (time between midnight and noon)
PM = Past Midday (12:00 noon) (denotes time between noon and midnight)
